Directions FAQ
> Where is the Fiber Optic building? How do I get there from
> the train station? Can I walk? Take a taxi? Are there taxis?
> Would a cab driver know how to locate the building? The Fiber Optics building is right bechind the Busch Campus Center on Busch Campus in Piscataway, NJ. There's a taxi stand right outside the train station (Victory Cabs). There's a much better chance that the driver will know where the Busch Campus Center is, but you can also ask for the Fiber Optics building, they might know. A taxi ride should cost $5-7 and take about 10 minutes (unless there are traffic jams).
You can also use the university's free bus system, but this requires some walking: exit at the front end of the platform (if you come from New York) and you'll find yourself on Easton Avenue; turn right and walk up Easton to the first light; turn right to Somerset Street for one block; turn left to College Avenue for one (rather long) block; cross Hamilton street and you'll find a bus stop on College Avenue. The walk to the bus stop should take 5-7 minutes. Take the A or H bus to the Busch Campus Center---buses run frequently, and the ride should take less than 20 minutes. Go through the Busch Campus Center to the other side, right in front of the Fiber Optics building.
> 1. Do I still take the train (NJ Transit) to New Brunswick,
> even though the Busch Campus is in Piscataway?Yes, New Brunswick is the train station with the most convenient transportation to Piscataway.
> 2. If I decide to drive instead, is there parking nearby?
Yes, lot 54, tell the attendant you're there for NELS.
> 3. What would the basic driving directions (and driving time)
> be, assuming I'm heading down the NJ Turnpike from NYC.With clear roads it should take about 40-50 minutes from the tunnels, but if you come in the morning there will be a lot of backups around Rutgers so allow yourself more time. Take the turnpike to exit 10, then 287 north to the Stelton Road exit. Turn left on Stelton Road towards Piscataway (there might even be signs to Rutgers, or the Rutgers Stadium), and then right onto Metlar's Lane. Follow Metlar's Lane until Davidson Road and turn right on Davidson into Busch Campus. From Davidson turn left onto Taylor road and lot 54 should be right there on your right. The above instructions may be a bit difficult to follow because road signs are not that great in this are and the roads take quite a few turns while keeping the same name. The best strategy is to look for the Rutgers signs, they should at least lead you to Busch Campus (the stadium is on the same campus, on the other side).
